Doors Close in…

tired of feeling average? READY TO FEEL REMARKABLE?

Is this right for me? Hear from your classmates.

Ages 18 to 60, style principles are timeless

KC, 43, California - Her why: stop choosing to blend in with a daily uniform

“Hi fabulous ladies! I’m a stay at home mom. I do photography as my part time business at home. I decided to take S&S because I want to simplify my wardrobe without losing my sense of style (whatever that is). I gravitate towards gym clothes as my daily errand uniform. I choose to settle and blend in with the crowd. I fear getting noticed. I worry about over dressing. I want that mentality to be reversed. Hopefully, this class will encourage me to get dauntless and creative. Looking forward to this process of discovery and learning about myself with you all!”

Linda, 60, Texas - Her why: wants to dress to feel joyful

“Retired, living in rural east Texas on a beautiful lake with my husband. I spend more on clothes that I reap in feeling happy about how I look. My closet is too full but I have nothing to wear except 20 outfits in rotation. I learned not to wear purple growing up (my mother hates purple) but I’m learning to incorporate it. I was taught to dress as cheaply as possible but still look ok. That is not necessary anymore but it is still my default mode. I own not one investment piece YET. And somehow I learned to dress for pride rather that joy. I want to feel joyful when I walk out my door. I want to feel and be friendly and approachable.”

Claudia, 18, Las Vegas - Her why: wants inspiration

“Hello everybody! I’m a freshman in college majoring in Criminal Justice! Excited to learn all that I can and looking forward to getting to know everyone here and be inspired by your outfits.”

Lauren, 31, New York - Her why: weight + confidence

“Ok, I’m a little intimidated to post because you all look so cute and pulled together but here goes… I’m a political consultant and also a food blogger. I work a lot and my office is really casual unless there’s something special going on, I used to be super stylish, but I’ve gained a lot of weight in the past few years and lost my confidence, so I’ve definitely been pretty blah lately.”

Your why could be weight challenges too

Adrian, 40 - Her why: stay-at-home-mom seeking confidence

“Hi everyone. I’m Adrian and I’m really happy to be here. I’m close to graduating and returning to work after twelve years of being a SAHM. I’m determined to get more comfortable in my own skin. My membership is a graduation present that I am grateful for. Looking forward to learning from everyone.”

Stacey, 40, Detroit - Her why: getting past body issues to play more

“Hi girls!!! I turn 40 next month (ok, not thrilled about the number, but I feel way younger and that’s what matters). I work in search engine management. I’m single and I have a furry 4 legged child. One of my goals is to wear skirts + dresses, which I haven’t done in a few years cause I don’t like my legs (getting honest here). I’m super excited to make fast friend and be inspired by you all!”

Melissa, 36, Richmond - Her why: stuck + seeking growth

“Hi everyone! I’m married, no kids — I’ve been in a bit of a rut lately and am hoping this experience will leave me feeling more creative and inspired!”

Meghan, 38, San Francisco - Her why: wants to make more effort with her style

“Hello, everyone! I live with my husband and a Boston terrier with anger management issues. I am the Chief Awesome Officer for an accessories company. I only work outside my house a few days a month and often struggle with making an effort with my style. I say I have two speeds: Vegas or Teenaged Camp Counselor. I recently chopped my hair off and I love a bold lip. I’m looking forward to being a part of this group.”

Emma, 40, Sweden - Her why: ready to feel more put together

“I am currently home with my 1-year-old son and 4-year-old but am starting work again at a new job in January. I have felt for a long time that I needed a little help getting a little more polished / put together so this came around the right time! I have only gotten out of my jeans/black nursing tops once this week (to go to the interview) but ready to learn and can’t wait for the challenges to come!”

Sandra, 39, Houston - Her why: body changes post-baby

“Howdy, y’all! I’m a mother of the most awesome and active 2 year old boy. After I got pregnant, I gained a few pounds and it has been a challenge to dress my permanent “beer gut” (medical term: Diastasis Recti = splitting of the stomach muscles). As a result, I live in maxi dresses and shapeless/flowy tops. Also, I’m a Physician Assistant so I wear scrubs for work. So, I’ve been rather uninspired and lazy these couple of years. But since I’m turning 40 soon I’ve decided I want to enter the new decade in STYLE. SO that’s why I’m here. Looking forward to getting to know y’all and be inspired!”

Whitney, 31, Florida - Her why: hungry for something new

“I’m in a style rut! Can’t wait to get to know all of you lovely ladies!”

Kristy, 32, Los Angeles - Her why: always feels over/under-dressed at work

“Hi ladies! I am so excited to get to be on this adventure with you! I’m married to my college sweetheart and work for a hotel developer, where I split my time between meetings with interior design teams from Paris, and meetings with the construction workers on site. I’m the only woman in my office and always feel out of place, as I always feel overdressed in the construction world, and under designed in the interior design world. I also put on a fair bit of weight over the last two years, so none of my favorite clothes fit anymore and I feel grumpy all the time. I’m hoping to find some guidance in what to wear to feel at home in my body and feel stylish and like “me” no matter where I am… :)”

Lindsay, 32, Arizona - Her why: wears the same thing all the time

“Since this is all about community and honesty I thought I would introduce myself with a picture of what I look 90% of the time. What I’m wearing right now in fact! This is my uniform and I am sick of it: ponytail, nursing bra, one of seven colors of this exact same dress from plus sized forever 21 and flip flops. Can’t wait to throw all 7 of these dresses in the trash, and learn what to put on this “new” body of mine since my baby boy popped out! Also (surprisingly) I own a fashion-adjacent business, and want my customers to think I atleast have an inkling about what is fashionable!”

Roseann, Sydney Australia - Her why: fresh start as a put together new mom

“First of all it’s lovely to meet you all and I’m really enjoying seeing everyone’s outfits for ideas and inspiration. I had a baby girl nearly 4 months ago now and I’ve been living in comfortable/maternity clothing for too long. Am bagging all my maternity clothes today so I can start fresh! I want to feel good about my body again and put in some effort. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and I look forward to seeing more of you on here and learning together as we go along.”

Madeline, Texas - Her why: more attention in shopping + spending

“Hi there Treehouse! I’m a personal stylist who joined this class for rejuvenation and to push myself to see new things in my wardrobe. I feel like with each new collection in the Boutique where I work I just buy things without looking at where my wardrobe gaps are. I’m excited to get more clarity and creativity flowing within the wardrobe I already have.”

Trinidad, 37 - Her why: wants excitement

“Hi everyone, I’m a graphic/web designer. I’m super excited about the start of style and styleability today!

Students age 40-50:

Mina 40, San Diego - Her why: stopping the cycle of mother to daughter

“Stay at home mom to two girls (4 + 6) that moonlights as a hospital pharmacist. I love fashion and always loved to shop but boy I have nothing to show for it. I’m very hit or miss in bringing outfits together and some items languish in my closet for years because I can’t figure out how to wear them.

Sometimes I get stuck with the final finishing like shoes and outwear and look “off”. I can’t seem to take it to the next level, whatever that may mean. My mother has the same problem and I don’t want to pass the same habits on to my daughters. I would love to give great fashion advice to them. 😀

Additionally, the last couple of years post pregnancy and the usual body/face changes has brought me down a bit. Things that used to work for me no longer do, so I’m trying to sort all that out emotionally as well as my appearance. So, I’m thrilled to be here, can’t believe I signed up/never done anything like this, and I’m sooooo ready to learn!

Cindy, 49, Vancouver - Her why: turning 50

“I’m a mom of 3 girls – 16, 14 and 11, wife to a globe trotting hubby and an entrepreneur 🙂 I have my own communications company.”

KC, 43, California - Her why: changing mental patterns

“Hi fabulous ladies! I’m a stay at home mom. I do glamour portrait photography as my part time work/business at home. I decided to take the S&S class because I wanted to learn, get inspired, get creative and get motivated in using the clothes or stuff that I already have. I want to be able to chuck the clothes that don’t fit my personality or lifestyle. I want to simplify my wardrobe without losing my sense of style (or whatever that is). I tend to gravitate towards my gym clothes as my daily, run around, errand uniform. I choose to settle and blend in with the crowd. I fear getting noticed. I worry about over dressing. I want that mentality to be reversed. Hopefully, this class will encourage me to get bodacious, dauntless and creative. It will also help boost my psyche very much. I also want to put an end to shopping aimlessly and on impulse and then letting those things age in my closet. Looking forward to this process of discovery and learning about myself with you all. Cheers!”

Judy, 43 - Her why: gained weight, lacking confidence

“Hello everyone! Married 19 years and I own my own business, stationery designer. My background is fashion (LOVE IT!). 2 years ago I got sick and after 1 year recovery, I gained weight and find that I am not confident with what I wear. The blazer I have on this picture is like my shield. If I could wear it every day, I would. Anyhow, I’m trying to find my way again. Looking forward to tomorrow.”

Elsie, 41, Singapore - Her why: wants inspiration

“Hi everyone, I’ve been running my own business with a partner for the last 10 years. I have 2 boys, aged 13 and 15. Really looking forward for this class to start.”

Maura, 44 - Her why: wants inspiration

“I’m really looking forward to this experience! I’m single, 2 kids, business owner. I have no fashion sense. My tendency is to dress very frumpily and I make very poor choices when I buy clothes. I buy them, give them to Goodwill. Buy more, give them to Goodwill. My sense is that I need to really think about the basics I should have and create a good foundation wardrobe and then build from there. I also hate shopping! But I see so many great looks posted here by all of you and feel very inspired.

In any case, I think this group will be very educational for me and comes at a good time as I will probably be buying almost a whole new wardrobe in the next year. :)”

Deb, 42 - Her why: wants to learn how to dress

“Hi ladies! I’m super excited to be here!! I’m a part time bookkeeper. I work in an office 2 days a week where there’s no dress code. The other days, I work from home, so….the yoga pant thing. I’ve always felt challenged getting dressed in the morning….trying to look like the cool kids, but never quite getting it right and then feeling a tad frumpy. I’m excited by this whole concept of learning how to dress! This is a common outfit for me..a casual skirt or stretchy, skinny jeans, a t-shirt of some kind, and a cardigan.”

Our sweethearts over 50:

Heather, 51 - Her why: gained weight

“ I never used to worry about style or whether I had one, but I have put on a lot of weight in the last few years & I don’t seem to be able to get it together very well.”

Eleanor, 54 - Her why: wants inspiration

“I’m Elle and I am 54 and mother of two older (16 & 19) teenage boys. I have been a Chef most of my career so have only worn “uniforms” of black t-shirt and black trousers for years. I found this quite difficult as my most favourite item was my jeans and everything else in my wardrobe has not been worn for ages.”

Linda, 06, Texas - Her why: wants to dress to feel joyful

“Retired, living in rural east Texas on a beautiful lake with my husband. 2.

I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU GLOW!
